Mother’s Day is a good reminder to be thankful for the women who help shape our lives. I’ve been so blessed to have had strong yet gentle, beautiful yet humble, fierce yet kindhearted ladies who poured into me through the years.  Today, I honor them.

My Mom was a corporate dynamo, not even kidding. She was the number one Relocation Real Estate Professional in the whole state of New Mexico for most of my school years. She and my dad were also the lead musicians at our church. Committed to family, work, and church; mom taught me how to go after my dreams and keep it all in balance. By example, she has always displayed what I call submissive ambition. Submitted to God – always. But once she gets the go ahead from Him, no one can stop her from fulfilling her goals. Not to mention she’s one of the nicest people you’ll ever want to meet.

Mom’s Mom, Juanita, was married at fifteen and had to bury twin babies a year later. Can you imagine?! Yet she forged on to raise four healthy children, all the while pursuing her education and obtaining a nursing degree. Mamaw could cook like none other and how she loved the outdoors! I remember her going deer hunting well into her seventies. She was resilient and tough but you’d never meet a more compassionate and loving woman than my Mamaw Juanita.

My Dad’s Mom, Lillian, was a little spitfire from the word GO! In her early days, she was in full-time ministry. She and my grandfather headlined revivals, planted churches, and pastored all over Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico. No one could pray like my Mamaw Lillian. She taught me to exercise my faith with no backing up. And no one could laugh like my Mamaw Lillian. I carry her sense of humor in me - that usually ill-timed ability to see the the funny side of just about any situation. A skilled seamstress and a talented musician, Lillian Stowers Bates LeBlanc Martin was a one of a kind. Yep, she outlived three husbands as well.

The list goes on. My incredible mother-in-law, Pat Wright. My amazing aunts: Betty, Priss, Sharon, Evelyn and Jean. Each with unique insights and qualities that have contributed to the fabric of who I am. I hope to take what they’ve taught me and pass it on. To my own family and to my readers. We can all learn from each other.  Happy reading …
